Hall Street Green

Residents in the Hall Street/ Lime Grove Conservation Area could soon be enjoying improvements on the pretty but neglected green area at the back of St Mary’s Church.

A sub-group of the Residents’ Association , the “Friends of Hall Street Green” committee, circulated a survey to all householders, asking how they would like to improve the green. About 40% replied.

There were no major surprises: tidying up the existing trees, shrubs and planting, and making provision for litter and dog waste came high on the list. We are hoping to make a start on these early this year.

New flower beds, a herb garden, a wild area and planting new trees are also a priority, and the council also suggested we level the green where subsidence has occurred.

When we have applied for more substantial grants we will improve the existing paths and extend the pathway to go all the way around the green. To add definition to the park and make it safer for children to play we hope to put in low level railings where there are currently bollards along the kerbside edge of the park. The current lighting will be improved in a style more sympathetic to being in a conservation area.

We are putting up a display board to keep people informed of our progress, and point out interesting birds, wildlife and plants

We are looking for anyone who can spare the time to join us on our task days, the first one will be tidying up around the existing railings and helping to smarten them up.

If you can help by sending a donation or on a task day please contact :
