Posted by Jenny on November 21, 2020 at 6:45 AM Comments comments (0)

Just a quick update that due to the current lockdown in place in England, we will not able to go ahead with the Task Day that had been planned for tomorrow. Hope you are all keeping safe and well, and continuing to enjoy the green :)

AGM

Due to COVID, the normal FROG AGM was not feasible this year, but the committee members have kindly agreed to continue their roles, and have completed a Chair's report (see the "Minutes" section of the website).

We hope to reschedule some of the events we had planned this year to take place next year instead, such as a Tai Chi demonstration, an Art show, a talk on the Church, and a Summer games event.

And before all that, we plan to get together (in a socially distanced way of course!) for a Green Tidy Day on 22nd November, to concentrate on leaf clearing, tidying the wildflower area and cleaning the paths. This will obey the COVID rules set out by the Council about social distancing, hygiene and sharing tools, see https://www.stockport.gov.uk/task-days-and-volunteering. ;

Look forward to seeing you all on the Green soon!

Lockdown Haven

It is so wonderful to see people enjoying the green during lockdown! Unfortunately we weren't able to host our planned May picnic this weekend because of the pandemic, and whether we able to go ahead with any events this year remains unclear at the moment. But I am sure I am not alone in feeling grateful for this green space on our doorstep. Whether you are able to leave your house to enjoy a walk around the green, or you are appreciating it through the window from isolation or shielding, I hope it is bringing you some joy!

Thanks, bug hotel, and open space

Thanks to those who helped with the green tidy up last Sunday, it is looking better already!

You might also spot a new addition to the green, a bug hotel. Please feel free to add to each of the 'floors' to make them cosy for the bugs, such as branches, twigs or bits of pipe.

Finally, in these challenging times, we are glad that the green provides open space that everyone can enjoy (at an appropraite distance from each other of course!), especially for those in self-isolation.

Spring Clean on the Green

If you are free next Sunday (15th March) come and join us on the Green at 11am for our Spring tidy-up. We will collect any litter, do a little bit of weeding, and generally get the green looking ready for spring/summer. The more the merrier, so look forward to seeing you there!

January 2020 Update

Posted by Jenny on February 6, 2020 at 10:35 AM Comments comments (0)

Our first meeting of 2020 was spent thinking up more ways to enjoy the Green this year. So far we have plans for a bird talk, a picnic, an art exhibition (in the Drill Hall, but maybe we can include paintings of the Green!) and possibly even some Tai Chi. Our first event will be the annual Spring Tidy Up on the Green on Sunday 15th March at 11am, when we will do a litter pick, tidy up any borders, and generally keep the Green looking it's best. We would love to see you there, all welcome.

Update 30/7/11. The form has been sent off - thanks to all involved.

We had over 100 responses from our survey (of 300 sent out). Thanks to PepitaJ haridressers, St Mary's church, Natwest bank and Cheadle Library for putting them on display and to Stockport Council for sending out to residents and collating the results.

The Lottery funding form is nearing completion.

We've had to modify the plans and move the path. The benches, wild planting area, heriitage lamps and bins are all in the plan.

The local community has been sent details and responses requested. Forms were also left in the local hairdressers, bank and library.

We have a meeting with the facilitator on July 13th.

Further plans may include a wild-life walk around the rear of the wild plant area.

The herbs wheel is overgrown withe herbs - please use them!

We had over 78 responses from our survey (from about 300 sent out) - A very encouraging response with some excellent comments.

It's Butterfly survey time, so if you do spend 15 minutes counting them on the Green, please let me know. We can use this in future to show increasing biodiversity.
